SIOP Showcase Day

Today more than 30 participants from six different school divisions are being welcomed to our schools in Brooks to learn about CTR’s SIOP program. SIOP, or Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol, is a framework for teaching English Language Learners (ELLs) academic content while supporting their English language acquisition. Through intentional and explicit implementation of specific teaching techniques, teachers support students at various English language proficiency levels to access grade level content. While this framework was originally developed with ELLs in mind, it has proven a strong model to support all learners in the classroom. Representatives from Alberta Education will also be in attendance. The showcase is a great opportunity to celebrate all the work both Christ the King Academy and Holy Family Academy have done around implementing SIOP and supporting their English Language Learners.
